Apostle and Saint.
Appointed to replace Judas, the earliest example of Apostolic succession, which is preserved today in the Magisterium.
Matthias established Churches in Judea, Cappadocia, Egypt and Ethiopia and was Martyred in A.D. 80.
His tomb is pictured here at the Basilica of Saint Justin in Padua.
